Polywire Privacy Policy
Polywire is a browser extension. It reads a news article and shows prediction markets on Polymarket that relate to it. This page explains what data leaves your browser, what we keep, and who else handles it.
What we send to our server
When Polywire scans an article, it sends this to our server:
- the article URL (and its canonical URL, if the page declares one)
- the article title
- the page language and publish date, if the page states them
- the main article text, up to 20,000 characters
- a hash of that text
- a random install ID that the extension creates when you install it
If you follow Polymarket traders in Polywire, it also sends the public wallet addresses you follow, with the label and alert size you set for each. These are tied to a random token, not to you (see "Followed traders" below).
We do not collect your browsing history, your own wallet address or keys, your email or any sign-in details. There is no email sign-up and no wallet sign-in.
When a scan happens
- When you click the toolbar icon. Only the tab you are on is read.
- Automatically on news sites, only if you turn it on. Automatic scanning is off by default. If you turn it on, your browser asks you to allow a list of news sites. Only those sites are scanned. You can turn it off in Polywire or remove the site permissions in your browser; either one stops automatic scanning.
Pages with too little article text are not sent.
What we keep
- Match results. We cache the result of a scan for up to 6 hours, so the same article is not processed twice. A cache entry holds the article URL, the text hash, the page language, the list of matched markets and the time. It does not hold the article text or title. After 6 hours the entry is no longer used and is deleted.
- News mentions. For public news articles, we keep the article URL, title, site and one quoted sentence for up to 7 days, to show why a market is moving. No install ID is stored with them, and pages that are not on our list of news sites are never kept this way. We also read public news feeds to find such articles.
- Scan counters. For each install ID we keep the date it first appeared, the time it was last seen and a count of scans today. We use these to enforce rate limits (10 scans per minute and 60 per day per install).
- Usage counts. When our trade card is shown on a Polymarket page, and when you place an order with it, the extension sends only the type of event: card shown, order sent or order accepted. We add one to that day's total. No install ID, page address, market, wallet or IP address is kept with it.
- Builder totals. Once a day we read Polymarket's public list of trades placed with Polywire's builder code and keep only the number of trades and their total value for each day.
- Error reports. If trading on Polymarket fails because Polymarket's page changed, the extension can send an error type, the extension version, a short technical detail and the install ID. These reports never contain article text.
- Followed traders. When you first follow a trader, our server creates an anonymous follow list and gives the extension a random token. We store only a fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) of that token and the date the list was created, plus the wallets on it (public Polymarket addresses), your label for each and your alert size. No email, wallet sign-in or IP address is stored with it. The extension keeps the token in your browser's synced storage, so your follow list follows your browser profile.
- Trades of followed wallets. About once a minute we read the public trades of followed wallets from Polymarket's public data API and keep them for 7 days to build your alerts. These are public on-chain trades; they are not linked to who follows the wallet.
- Server logs. Our hosting records ordinary request logs, such as time and status.
The extension also keeps, on your device only, the install ID, your automatic-scan choice and recent results for the current browser session.
Who else handles your data
- Anthropic (Claude). To find related markets, we send the article title, URL, publish date and text to Anthropic's API.
- Microsoft Azure OpenAI. We send a short summary and search phrases written from the article to Azure OpenAI to turn them into search vectors. If the summary step is unavailable, the title and the first 1,000 characters of the article are sent instead.
- Polymarket. When you open a market or trade, you are on polymarket.com and Polymarket's own terms and privacy policy apply. Polymarket sees your visit, including the referral code in the link. To show your position in a market, Polywire's card asks Polymarket's public data API directly from your browser, using your Polymarket wallet address; the address is never sent to our server. Our server reads Polymarket's public data API for the wallets people follow, the trader leaderboard and large trades in a market; these requests carry no information about you.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Attribution and fees
- Market links that Polywire shows carry Polywire's affiliate code (the
viaparameter). If you sign up on Polymarket through such a link, Polywire may earn a share of fees under Polymarket's affiliate program. - Orders you place through Polywire's panel on polymarket.com carry Polywire's builder code. Polywire does not change orders placed with Polymarket's own buttons.
- Polywire's builder fee is currently 0. If it changes, Polywire will show the fee before you confirm an order.
Not financial advice
Polywire shows markets related to an article. It does not give financial, investment or legal advice, and it does not tell you what to trade. Prediction markets can lose money. Whether you can use Polymarket depends on where you live and on Polymarket's terms. You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you.
Your choices
- Do not click the icon, and leave automatic scanning off, and no article data is sent. To stop the usage counts, switch to Polymarket's card.
- To delete your follow list, use "Delete my follow list" in Polywire (it calls our delete endpoint,
DELETE /v1/account). This removes the token fingerprint and every wallet you follow from our server at once. Unfollowing a trader removes that wallet from your list straight away. - Uninstalling the extension deletes the data stored on your device. It does not delete your follow list on our server; delete it first.
- To ask us to delete the data tied to your install ID, email us with that ID. It is stored in the extension's local storage.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
